Housing disrepair CIC - supports and takes action on behalf of people living in poor quality local authority and social housing. We provide a holistic approach to supporting people not only with housing advice but with mental health, social issues, finance, wrap-around support by addressing their key housing problems and initiating the appropriate realistic action. This can involve signposting to additional support to local partners.
What are passions and ambitions of the business or organisation?
I have a passion for social justice having been an elected member of Liverpool City Council for 16 years. I have a history of working in debt advice and this drive is something I am bringing to Housing Disrepair CIC. The ambition of the business is to break down barriers for people seeking help and support, engage communities to challenge poor standards of living.
Why is it important that your business is in Anfield/Everton?
I have lived in Anfield for 27 years and it's my home. The people in this deprived area are often overlooked.
What does this neighbourhood mean to you?
Everything - it’s my place and space
What advice would you give a new, local person starting up their own business or organisation in Anfield/Everton?
Utilise any support for any organisation you can - don’t be afraid to speak out.
What are your aspirations for the area / what would you like the neighbourhood to look like in 5 or 10 years' time?
Completely different, vibrant, shops, recognised as somewhere that has actually achieved change.
