Kitty’s Launderette
Tell us what you (or your business) does?
Kitty's Launderette is a community launderette and social hub situated on Grasmere street in the Anfield/Everton area. On a day-to-day basis we aim to provide our community with a place to do access high-quality, affordable ecological laundry and dry cleaning services. We also want to be an accessible social space in our community for people to gather, talk and learn. We host a range of activities in our space from family craft activities to film nights.
What are passions and ambitions of the business or organisation?
Our principle of purpose is to support some of the most disadvantaged in our community through access to quality local laundry services, quality Real Living Wage jobs and volunteering opportunities, as well as an accessible social space welcoming to all.
Why is it important that your business is in Anfield/Everton?
Kitty's being a community-led organisation means that our work is being shaped by the people who truly understand what is needed in the area. Whether that be affordable laundry services, more jobs or having a space to socialise; we're keen to continuing listening and responding to the needs of our community.
As a workers-community cooperative and social enterprise we're keen to share our model and learning with others. We believe in the vision of community-led regeneration and empowerment and believe that we're stronger together than apart.
What does this neighbourhood mean to you?
Anfield/Everton is the place where most of our team members have grown up. Like family or the football team you support, the place your from runs in your blood.
Anfield/Everton is a community that is made up of diverse and beautiful people who want to stand by each others side.
What advice would you give a new, local person starting up their own business or organisation in Anfield/Everton?
Think about what support you want from other organisations or the people in the area. People want to see people thriving and if you can identify ways in which they can help you do this then you can be really clear in what your needs are.
Also think about ways in which you can support other organisations. What skills/knowledge do you have that's currently missing from the area and can you use these skills/knowledge to help others?
What are your aspirations for the area / what would you like the neighbourhood to look like in 5 or 10 years' time?
I'd like to see more community owned business' and houses that are making Anfield/Everton a better place to live, work and play.
I'd love to see people talking about Anfield in the way they talk about the Preston model or closer to home Granby four streets.
